Italy becomes first European country to allot job quota for Pakistanis
Italy has allotted Pakistan a quota of 10,500 jobs for the next three years. According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, Pakistan has succeeded in getting this important quota from Italy, after which Italy has become the first country in Europe to set a regular job quota for Pakistan.
The spokesperson said that under this agreement, 3,500 Pakistanis will go to Italy every year to get employment. Of these, 1,500 people will go to Italy under seasonal quota while 2,000 people will go to Italy under non-seasonal quota. These opportunities have been provided in various sectors including shipbreaking, healthcare and agriculture.
According to the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, there are also vast opportunities in Italy for Pakistani skilled and semi-skilled workers. These include welders, technicians, chefs, waiters and housekeeping, while employment opportunities will also be available in the fields of nursing, medical technicians, farming and cultivation.
The spokesperson said that the second meeting of the Joint Working Group between Pakistan and Italy will be held in Islamabad in February, in which further progress is expected.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, terming this development as an important milestone for Pakistan, said that this decision will open new doors of employment for the Pakistani workforce in Italy and in the future, more countries in Europe will also provide opportunities for Pakistani workers.
He added that the government of Pakistan is making continuous efforts to provide its citizens with respectable employment at the international level, while overseas Pakistanis are Pakistan’s ambassadors around the world and the backbone of the country’s economy.
